It should be a no-brainer: good cookies and good union jobs. The Bronx has long been home to the Stella D'Oro cookie and breadstick baking factory, which is scheduled to close very shortly. The bakery's 136 union workers, members of BCTGM Local 50, went through a strike in 2008 against the factory's previous owners, Brynwood Partners. Brynwood then sold the company to Lance, Inc., which is threatening to move operations to a presumably non-union facility in Ohio. Jobs with Justice has a petition campaign aimed at keeping these good union jobs in New York.
