Who Can Join?
The International Labor Communications
Association, founded in 1955, is the
professional organization of labor
communicators in North America. Most of our
members are union media, whether they be paid
staff or volunteers. We are also building
alliances with independent labor media,
alternative media, the media reform movement,
and free-lance and individual labor
communicators.
Businesses interested in promoting labor
media, including businesses that print labor
publications, host labor websites and perform
similar support services for the labor movement
can help out by joining the ILCA as associate
members. A brief glance at membership
eligibility:
* Full
membership in ILCA is open to print,
internet, broadcast, video or electronic
publications and productions of the AFL-CIO and
CLC; unions affiliated with those labor
federations; and their constituent bodies,
councils and departments. Also eligible for
full membership are many in-house union
positions involved in media relations,
organizing, publicity, speech-writing, or
similar promotional and/or outreach efforts on
behalf of the labor movement.
* Associate
membership is open to individuals,
organizations and companies who have a
community of interest with the International
Labor Communications Association and who have
made a contribution to further the purposes of
ILCA. Applications for associate membership
must be approved by a vote of the Executive
Council. Associate members gain the right of
participation and voice (except as limited by
the Constitution Article III, Sec. 10.)
* Media from unions in the Change to Win
Federation or other unions that are not
affiliated with the AFL-CIO or CLC may apply
for full membership in ILCA, rather than
associate membership. This application for
membership must be approved by a vote of the
Executive Council.
