ILCA
Media Training: Media and
communications have
become critically important elements in the
world of politics, issues and
everyday life. The
International Labor
Communications Association helps union
communicators, leaders and members to win the
battle for hearts, minds and votes of union
members, the public and decision makers,
through strong and motivating messages
delivered by effective strategic
communications systems.
ILCA can help you develop the communications talent and expertise to create and disseminate good messages and an army of communications activists at work in local unions and in the community to spread the word. ILCA's communications professionals can bring their successful program to bolster your union's communications by training leaders and activists in the field and working the issues. For more information, please email Leo Canty, ILCA Education Committee Chair.
ATU President Warren George: "The ILCA program was a winner. Our leaders gave high marks for the training program and teaching methods. Now we have more leaders who are better skilled to get our message out and use the media tactically to win at negotiations and in politics."
The AFL-CIO Organizing Institute is designed to recruit and train a new generation of union organizers. OI already has trained thousands of union members and others committed to building power for working families across the nation through classroom training, field training and job placement. New organizers assist workers who are forming unions in all sectors of the economy, including manufacturing, retail and agriculture.
Need to bargain healthcare? Strengthen your organizing skills? Negotiate a contract? Mediate a grievance or fill out the new LM-2? What about labor history and issues? And how about finishing that college degree? The National Labor College has courses and Bachelor's degree programs tailored especially for the labor movement -- it's the only accredited college in the world exclusively dedicated to educating union members, leaders, activists and staff. Located just minutes from Washington D.C., the NLC offers online courses and courses in a flexible, online, low residence format making it easy for full time workers with families to attend.
"ILCA put on a week-long training for 60
of our rank and filers. They sent
a half dozen trainers to teach media relations
and video. They tailored their
curriculum to our needs, working directly with
our Education and Communications
departments to make sure it worked for us and
it did. Our people learned new
skills and gained the confidence to go on and
do communications work in their
locals."
