Skillset: How to Engage in the Comments

How to Engage in the CommentsOne of my favorite e-newsletters is Poynter’s Try This! Tools for Journalism. Every Monday Ren LaForme curates a useful roundup of digital tools and resources for journalists and communications professionals. Recently, the newsletter featured a guide created by Alexandra Bowen of The Coral Project called How to Engage in the Comments: a Journalist’s Guide.

One of the great maxims of the internet is “don’t read the comments.” As a labor communicator, engaging with members, detractors and the broader society in the comment section is unavoidable. Bowen’s guide explores how journalists can effectively engage and create value in the comment section. She also created a printable one-pager to accompany the guide.

You can listen at your desk or play it at your next union event. The playlist is curated by Asher Huey and features a broad range of labor songs from every genre. Happy listening and solidarity forever!
